Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving two semi-trucks that occurred early this morning on U.S. Highway 441, south of State Road 60. The accident was reported at approximately 7:17 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary reports indicate that the collision involved a 2015 semi-truck  and a 2020 semi-truck. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 2015 semi was traveling northbound while the 2015 semi was traveling southbound on U.S. 441. For reasons yet to be determined, the northbound truck veered into the southbound lane, directly into the path of the southbound truck. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of southbound truck swerved, but the trucks collided front left to front left.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and overturn in the adjacent wood line. The northbound came to rest on its roof, while the southbound truck ended up on its right side. The driver of northbound truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and their identity is pending confirmation. The driver of southbound truck, a 28-year-old man from Orlando, was not transported from the scene and reportedly did not sustain serious injuries.

A roadblock was put in place, affecting both directions of travel on U.S. Highway 441 as the investigation continues. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and exercise caution in the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and further details will be released as they become available.
