The City of St. Cloud has notified regulators about a recent cybersecurity incident and introduced a toll-free number and website to provide detailed information and support to affected employees and customers.

On or about March 25, 2024, the City became aware of suspicious activity in its computer systems. The City promptly took steps to mitigate the incident and launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity specialists to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The City also is implementing additional safeguards to further safeguard its computer systems.

Although the investigation is ongoing, to date it has been determined that the cyber criminals accessed some of the City’s systems, potentially making data accessible to them between March 17, 2024, and March 25, 2024. The investigation is still working to determine the full extent of what information was accessed.

Although types of information impacted likely vary by individual, based on information currently known, the types of information impacted could include the following: name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license, medical information, health insurance information, and financial account information. Once the investigation is complete, the City will send letters to those affected.

In the meantime, the City encourages employees and customers to remain vigilant against identity theft by reviewing account statements, credit reports, and explanations of benefits forms for unusual activity. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the credit card company, bank, healthcare/insurance provider, or other applicable institution. Potentially affected people can also find additional information on how they can help protect their personal information, as well as obtain additional resources, by visiting the City’s website.

The City has established a toll-free number to provide information. Those potentially affected can call 1-800-939-4170 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, excluding major holidays. Information also can be found on the City’s website, www.stcloudfl.gov
